1968 - 2024
It is with great sadness that we have to report that Keith Hargitt Shihan passed away at Fort St. John Hospital January 8th 2024. Keith Shihan had been very ill for some time and due to his debilitating illness, he was unable to practice his very loved Shorei-Kan Karate.
He was the 2nd son of Vic Hargitt Shihan and a master technician when it came to Shorei-Kan Karate. Keith Shihan started training at Delview school dojo late 1979 under the direction of Koyabu Shihan and as a green belt in 1983 he travelled to Japan/Okinawa for the first time for a demonstration. He was able to travel to Okinawa and Tokyo a few more times for tournaments and examinations. He attained the rank of Shihan Godan in Japan in the year 2000.
He was also instrumental in the running of the Surrey Shorei-Kan Dojo for many years and when he moved from Vancouver to Princeton, he opened up a dojo in his new home, the town of Princeton. He later moved up to Fort St. John but due to poor health was unable to open up a dojo or practice Shorei-Kan Karate.
He will be sorely missed by all.
Keith Shihan was the first to tie Jack Shihan's Shodan Belt
